Do I need to do an exam?

You will need to pass a qualification to become a personal alcohol licence holder is a requirement of anyone authorising the sale of alcohol.

Do I need a Personal Licence if selling alcohol in a shop?

Yes, you still need a personal alcohol licence even if you are not selling drinks in a bar or restaurant.

I have a Premises Licence. Do I still need the Personal Alcohol Licence?

Again yes. A Premises Licence ensures that your location is safe and compliant with the necessary local and national requirements. Personal Alcohol Licences ensure that your staff are well trained in order to work in your premises.

I'm selling alcohol at a temporary event. Do I need a Personal Licence?

Yes you will need a Personal Licence holder on your stall at all times. This may require two licence holders so you are covered if one is sick or needs a break.

Do all my staff need a licence?

No. You just need to ensure that anyone authorising the sale of alcohol has a licence. This means that waiters and kitchen staff are definitely ok without a licence.

How long does a Personal Licence last?

Since 2015 Personal Licences have been valid indefinitely so there is no need to renew!
