Overview

Our Level 1 Award An Introduction to Mental Health and Wellbeing qualification will furnish you with an understanding of the common mental health issues, such as stress, anxiety and depression, that can have an impact on our everyday lives. You'll gain knowledge of key mental health terms, how to take care of your own mental health and wellbeing, how to support others, such as family and friends, and the different types of support available. Upon successful completion of the invigilated assessment, you will receive an official certificate.

The course provides an introduction to mental health and wellbeing and includes:

  • Narrated video-lessons
  • Activities and progress quizzes
  • A mock practice test, complete with review facility and a bank of changing questions.

You will need to pass a multiple-choice exam at the end of the course in order to gain the official qualification. This exam can be taken in one of our regional test centres, or on a laptop with a camera in a suitably quiet location. Your activity on the screen and via the webcam is recorded during the whole assessment and reviewed by the examining body.

Course Syllabus

  • Course Introduction

This unit provides an introduction to the Level 1 Award An Introduction to Mental Health and Wellbeing course. It outlines the structure of the course and how the rest of the modules and units cover the course content.

  • The Terms Mental Health and Wellbeing

We begin the course by explaining what is meant by the terms "mental health" and "wellbeing", as well as the different activities that take place within our minds.

  • Mental Ill-Health

Now we'll take a look at what we mean by mental ill-health, specifically exploring the difference between mental illness and mental health problems. In addition, we'll examine responses to difficult situations, both with and without mental ill-health, as well as signs that mental health is deteriorating.

  • Lifestyle Choices and Mental Wellbeing

In this final unit of Module 1, we focus on how lifestyle choices affect our mental health and wellbeing. It also explains how the end of module progress tests work.

  • Methods to take care of your own Mental Health and Wellbeing

To kick things off with our second module, we explore common ways to keep your mind healthy.

  • Strategies and Techniques to Manage Common Difficult Situations

Next up in Module 2, we're going to look at how you can build strategies to help you cope with stress, anxiety, low mood and depression.

  • Emotional Resilience

In this last unit of Module 2, we look at what is meant by the term "emotional resilience", as well as its importance in maintaining good mental health and wellbeing.

  • Signs and Symptoms of Mental Ill-Health

For our first unit of Module 3, we explore changes in behaviour in people we know well from when we knew them in better mental health. We also look at when you should seek assistance when you're providing support to friends and family.

  • Offering Support to Family and Friends

In this final unit of Module 3, we outline the ways that you can offer support to family and friends with their mental health and wellbeing. We’ll also look at how to maintain your own mental wellbeing while providing support to someone with mental ill-health.

  • Helpful Resources

The first part of our fourth and final module explores where you can go for help and the different types of support available to help with mental health and wellbeing.

  • Revision and Exam Preparation

Time to get ready for your end of course multiple-choice exam. In this unit, we will recap the material you need to remember, remind you of the format of the exam, and offer some examination tips. We also have a practice exam at the end.

Obtaining your certificate

You will need to pass a multiple-choice exam after you have completed the course in order to gain the official qualification. But don’t worry – we will ensure that you are well prepared with our revision module and mock exam.
